Veterans and Handmade Paper

I am blessed to have the opportunity to conceive, develop and teach “Healing With ART” classes to some of the 40,000 Veterans and/or Veterans spouses that we have here in Cochise County. June’s classes focus on making handmade paper and handmade paper casting. Last week’s paper making class was a wonderful experience for all of us. The attendees each created 10 to 15 sheets of handmade paper. I warned them that creating beautiful as well as useful handmade paper is addictive and they agreed. Bet they will LOVE paper casting too! Here are just a few sheets of handmade paper we created in a few hours “playing”. Some of these sheets will be used for July AG blog projects….so stayed tuned…..smile.

Papers above:
Red, white & blue papers: used construction paper and red napkin for the red sheet, white scrap and Iridescent flakes for the white sheet and dark blue paper napkin and white scrap with AG Iridescent flakes for the blue sheet.
Pink and blue papers: Added some additional white scrap to reserved red slurry. Added additional white scraps to the blue slurry.
Ivory, lavender and yellow papers: Shredded money was added to the ivory slurry while after being poured. Dried rose petals were added to the lavender slurry during the last few seconds of blending. Dried onion skins added to the yellow slurry during the last few seconds of blending.
White, lavender and cream papers: Plain white slurry. Dark purple paper napkin added to left over lavender slurry, more dried rose petals added. Dried spices added to leftover yellow & white slurry to create the cream paper.
