Dolphin Summer

It's almost that time! The sun has found its way out and the weather is warming up nicely. It makes me think about swimming and dolphins, so I created a cute little card that can be shared with anyone: your father or husband for Father's Day, your best friend for their birthday, your grandmother to just let her know that you are thinking of her, or even your sister to invite her to your home for a little sister time.

To create this card, you will need:

Arnold Grummer's Cotton Lintner in Shredded or Sheet versions
Arnold Grummer's Botanicals (except for the skeleton leaves)
Recycled paper of your choice (I used manila paper.)
Dolphin stamp (with seaweed or coral would be great)
Rectangular card
Designer card stock
Ribbon
Stickles
Embossing powder (I used blue.)
Embossing pen
Colorbox Cat's Eye Ink Pad (Teal)
Sea-type ephemera
Scor-Tape
Glue
Heat Gun
Scissors
Corner Punch

What to do:
  • Make paper pulp using Cotton Lintner and your paper choice. Add a sprinkling of botanicals for an accent.
  • Place the pulp on top of the rubber portion of the stamp and press out any excess water. Remove the pulp from the stamp and allow to dry completely. You can also leave the pulp on top of the stamp until it begins to dry, then peel it off and let it complete the drying cycle. Use any excess to make other paper castings.
  • Use a heat gun to singe the edges of the casting and the inside where there are dips and divots in the design. This helps create texture and movement.
  • Saturate the dolphin with the embossing ink by using the embossing pen. Add embossing powder on top and shake off any excess. Use the heat gun to emboss the dolphin.
  • Create rounded corners on the card by using the corner punch. Cut the decorative card stock in dimensions that will allow a quarter-inch border of the card to show. Use the teal ColorBox Ink pad to edge both. Use the Scor-Tape to adhere the decorative paper to the card.
  • Cut a piece of ribbon slightly shorter than the length of the card. Cut a triangle out of each end. Adhere the ribbon to the decorative paper using the Scor-Tape.
  • Glue the paper casting on top of the ribbon. Use Stickles to accent the seaweed or other elements around the dolphin. Add ephemera to enhance the design.
Enjoy your card!
