Altered Frame with Handmade Paper by Steph

Image
Hi everyone, Steph here with an altered frame using handmade paper. Creating your own paper is fun, but sometimes you make a mistake.  I was creating this envelope but forgot to use the mesh while removing excess water from the paper.  Unfortunately, this pulled away part of the paper I had just made!  No more envelope! I just put this paper aside to dry, then realized I could cut it apart and alter a frame. Cutting the papers to fit, I adhered them to the frame.  Once dry, I used the Proxxon PenSander to sand the edges and remove the excess paper. Using another sheet of handmade paper, I die cut flowers, flourishes and a butterfly. Then I sprayed the elements with Imagine Fireworks! Sprays. I painted the edges of the frame with terracotta paint, then stamped a grid pattern with Brilliance Coffee Ink randomly about the frame.   I then added the flourishes, flowers and butterfly to the frame. I stamped a phra...

"Let It Snow" Frame

Image
Truth be told, I'm not a fan of wintertime. But, I do love the beauty that a fresh snowfall creates. When I made this winter decor piece, I was thinking about branches laden with twinkling snow, and how pristine the landscape looks right after a snowfall . I found the frame at a thrift shop, and it was in sad need of paint. I used a dull gold multi-colored textured spray paint to give the frame a new life. For the background, I selected a white piece of my handmade paper that had tiny flecks of sparkle in it. (I followed these directions to make my handmade paper.) I used my Zing electronic cutter to cut the lettering out of light chipboard. I used another sheet of handmade paper to cut a duplicate set of lettering. I glued the handmade paper letters to the chipboard letters. The chipboard gave the lettering just the right amount of height to add dimension to the frame. The stylized snowflake was cut out of double sided adhesive. One side was coated with gold dus...

Memory Keeper Photo Frames

Image
I love sharing pictures of family, and decided to make these special by presenting them in frames covered with handmade paper. I used the Arnold Grummer's photo frame set . Everything you need to construct the frames comes in the kit, except the paper you use for covering. I followed the easy directions that are included in the kit. I selected handmade paper to cover the frames. I used a liquid glue to adhere the paper to the frame. I used small binder clips to hold the glued edges in place while the glue dried. Since handmade paper tends to be a bit softer that regular paper or cardstock, I protected the front of the frame with waste paper where I clipped the glued edges in place so the clips wouldn't dent the paper. I embellished one frame with rolled roses made from the scraps of the paper I used to cover the frame. For the other frame I embellished with leaves that I dried using the Arnold Grummer's garden press . Here are the finished frames, ready to...
