Fun Sewing Themed Card using Handmade Paper

Image
Hello, everyone! It's Nancy here with a fun new card, created with some great handmade paper. Can you tell what I used to create my paper this time? Does my card theme give you a hint? Materials Used: Arnold Grummer's PAPERMILL Complete Papermaking Kit ;   Blender; Sewing Pattern Tissue; Stampendous - Build a Wreath Die Set - Generously provided by Stampendous Black Cardstock; Sewing Themed Stamps from Stampin' Up and Close to My Heart; Memento - Tuxedo Black Ink; Piercing Tool and Mat; Sewing Needle; DMC - Black Embroidery Floss; Small Piece of Black Ribbon. How I did it: As you've probably guessed, I created my paper using sewing pattern tissue. It makes a wonderful handmade paper, with a completely different texture than the other papers I have made. It has a smoother finish, and a crisper texture.  I used a metal ruler to tear the paper down to a rectangle, sized to fit inside an A2 size card front. It left a lovely soft...

How to make bracelets using handmade paper

Here is how I made a bracelet using handmade paper. I’ve always wanted to make paper bracelets that would last. The texture of the paper was so luscious that I knew I wanted to feature it. The color was elegant, so I decided to make a bracelet that would be able to hold it’s own at the tea table.   Supply List Handmade paper (this project used two contrasting pieces) gel medium (I used Golden   tool to apply gel medium waxed paper or craft mat scissors lace of a length to fit both sides of the bracelet sewing machine thread (in this case, white) hand sewing needle 3 freshwater pearls (or other embellishments) backing, I used some packing from some mail I received, but felt, craft foam or other stiff fabric will work velcro Step by step directions Make paper. Happy Valentine's Day

Image
We are fast approaching the season of love! I have a fun valentine's day project made with pressed flowers from our yard and recycled Christmas wrapping paper. I hope you saved those crumpled piles of used Christmas wrapping paper because that is what we will be using to make our paper. Luckily many of these papers and red! I also chose one that had a silver design in it. More about that later! Using the Trash to Treasure Book  Follow the directions on pages 52 - 55 for making paper with a Pour mold. Add torn pieces of paper to the blender filled with water and make the pulp.  Pour into the hand mold and then remove the water using first the screen, then the couches. The sheet can be air dried or dried using an iron.  I told you I used a paper that had a silver design. I should have known it would be a problem when I could not tear it but instead had to use scissors. The pulp was filled with pieces of foil. I did continued to finish...

Handmade Paper Christmas Poinsettia

Image
Hi, Ann here today, with a paper poinsettia that you can make for your Holiday Decorations.  Here it is: To begin make several sheets of handmade paper in the Arnold Grummer Paper Making Method using the Arno;ld Grummer Paper Making system.  To make these sheets I used recycled wrapping papers, some tinsel, and some envelopes. To make the petals and centre of the flower a steel metal die was used to speed up the process. Following the cutting of the flower parts, cut a big circle out of some cardboard. Add some glue to the circle.  Begin laying the larger petals around the circle.  For the next layer add some more glue and repeat.  The centre is made by layering two different coloured enters over one another.  The stamens are represented with some clear dimensional glue and glass beads. Finally to use this poinsettia as a tree ornament, glue to the back of a large clothes pin. I hope that you enjoy recycling papers ...

To Paris With Love

Image
Hello, Ann here today with  my small tribute to the people of Paris, France.  A few days ago the world was shocked to see and hear of the sad events that took place there.  My intended project and post was very different, but on Friday evening when I saw on television what was happening in my cousins' homeland I was compelled to make this: It is a small piece that I will insert into my art journal in the next coming days, but for now it is a small vigil to remind us of the fragility of life. To make this project I used one sheet of handmade paper I made using the Arnold Grummer Paper Making Method.  The actual pulp comes from some international (Europe) packaging I had in the recycling bin and I thought it befitting the situation. With a stamp of the Eiffel Tower and inks I stamped the image onto the paper.  I let it dry thoroughly. Then I cut out the image leaving a frame around it which I inked in Black.  Because I already had the Red, Whit...

Memorial Day Flag by Linda Hess & her 1st graders

Image
Ever wonder what to do with all of those bit and pieces of paper??  I think I have the perfect project for you!  Now granted, I teach art so I have multiple hands to do the work for me, but you could scale down the project and still have fantastic results.   With Memorial Day upon us, I created a project with my 1st grade students.  Our school is next door to Quantico Marine Base, so many students have family ties to the military.  We spoke about what Memorial Day is and the meaning of the stripes & stars in the flag.  They were all very excited to work on this collaborative project! Materials are simple: Scraps and pieces of paper in desired colors (I had an assortment for my students including handmade scraps, construction paper scraps, and magazine scraps) Sheet of backing paper (ours was very large ~ 30"x36") Ruler & pencil Glue (any type will do...at school we used Elmer's School Glue) Optional: sequined stars Use th...

Experimenting with Dryer Sheets & Paper Creations

Image
Hi all!  Never underestimate the effects of down time on a mind that tends to wander.  We had a snow day a couple of weeks ago during which I caught up on laundry.  As I started throwing away the used dryer sheets I was hit by a thought...what would happen if I used the dryer sheets with paper pulp??  Would it bond with the paper?  Would it peel away??  Would it give the paper more strength?  Only one way to find out...start experimenting. The first thing that flashed in my mind was a comic strip bowl.  I had to wait for the Sunday funnies to try it.  I cut out one of the comic strips to be used whole.  The rest of the comics were shredded to be turned into pulp. Following the instructions with the Papermill Pro, I assembled the deckle box with the support grid and Papermaking screen.  On top of the papermaking screen I laid 2 used dryer sheets side by side.  Then I placed the cut out comic face down on the dryer sheets....
