How to make bracelets using handmade paper

Here is how I made a bracelet using handmade paper. I’ve always wanted to make paper bracelets that would last. The texture of the paper was so luscious that I knew I wanted to feature it. The color was elegant, so I decided to make a bracelet that would be able to hold it’s own at the tea table.

Supply List
Handmade paper (this project used two contrasting pieces)
gel medium (I used Golden
tool to apply gel medium
waxed paper or craft mat
scissors
lace of a length to fit both sides of the bracelet
sewing machine
thread (in this case, white)
hand sewing needle
3 freshwater pearls (or other embellishments)
backing, I used some packing from some mail I received, but felt, craft foam or other stiff fabric will work
velcro

Step by step directions
  1. Make paper. Watch Arnold Grumer’s How to Make Paper: Basic Steps in Papermaking  (https://arnoldgrummer.com/resources/watch-videos.html ) to learn how to make the paper you will use. I used the Medium Handmold to make the paper I used. If you use the Large Pour Handmold to make your paper, you can skip step 3.
  2. Once the paper is dry cut two lengths of the paper 2.25” wide. If the length of your paper is long enough to go around your wrist and overlap by 2” you can skip step 3.
  3. Take the two lengths of paper to the sewing machine. Overlap the pieces and sew together using a zig zag stitch.
  4. Place the paper on waxed paper or craft mat and apply gel medium over one side. Let dry. Turn over and do the same. At this point add any coordinating paper accents you wish, I used the circles I cut out from the paper lanterns I made for the last project. Apply to gel medium and then cover the whole with gel medium. Let thoroughly dry.
  5. Zigzag the lace to either side of the backing.

  6. When the paper is completely dry, zigzag it to the backing.
  7. Adjust the length as needed. Then zigzag velcro to the ends.

  8. Hand-sew embellishments (freshwater pearls)  to the middle of the center three circles.

Thank you for visiting. I’d love to have you come over to my blog with your cup of tea. I have more photos of this bracelet worn to have a lovely cuppa.
