Butterfly Wings

Hello! Peggy here to show you how I made my butterfly steampunk card.

Todays supply list is:

I just so happened to go to butterfly gardens here in Victoria, BC.  with my daughters and found a dead butterfly on the pond. I knew I had to make something with the wings!
I prepared my paper making kit and pulled my butterfly apart. I ended up with four individual wings.
I made my pulp and before I pulled my deckle box (wooden frame) up from the water I placed my butterfly wings into the pulp.  Funny thing about real butterfly wings.. they're waterproof!. So, when I tried to put my wings under water.. they kept popping up. I ended up placing some of the pulp directly on top of the wings.
The next thing I realized of course.. is that they have powder on the wings and can rub off. So when my paper was dry I sealed the butterfly wings and my paper with a spay sealer. I may later on add glossy accents on top or crystal lacquer.  I cut my handmade paper to fit a card front. I also had some black handmade paper on hand so I backed my piece onto that.  I needed some background distraction so I stamped (rolled) on some background stamps randomly.
For my focal image I used a favorite stamp and colored it with distress inks for a vintage look. I placed that on top of my wings.
I stamped the word ART on the side and added a strip of Tim Holtz filmstrip to the bottom. I also found some paper with holes to place on top of my paper.
And thats it! It was so easy to make the paper with whatever your mind
can imagine and try it out and see how it works out!
I had a great time time today and I hope I have inspired you to try it out ..
The possibilities for adding things to paper is endless.
