Liberty, Liberty, Liberty!
July is one of my favorite months of the year. The summer picnics, lazy days around the swimming pool, family reunions, fireworks and a celebration of our country and all it stand for. I could not resist creating these two framed art pieces using some of the paper castings done several weeks ago during the Veterans paper casting class. They looked wonderful as part of the table decor along with small American flogs for our Independence day celebration.
Supplies:
• Any of the Arnold Grummer® paper making kits
• Blender, strainer, cello sponges and soft towels
• A sunny window
• AG Cotton Linter or craps of white paper (think junk mail, etc.)
• Scraps of white card stock to die cut (I used white food packaging)
• 5 x 6” frames
• Dark blue with silver stars mulberry paper
• Liberty Bell and Statue Of Liberty plastic molds (unknown)
• Dies: CheeryLynnTM: #B622 “Freedom” & #B352 “Forever”
• Crafters Companion Gemini Jr.TM die cutting and embossing machhine
• Beacon ZipDryTM adhesive, double sided foam tape
• Soft lead pencil and paper stump (tortilla)
• Scrap foam board
Instructions:
1. Follow the instructions found in any of the Arnold Grummer™ paper making kits to create
white slurry and cast one or more each of the .Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell.
2. Allow the casting to dry in the sunny window. (Remember you cannot put plastic in a
microwave or heat gun.)
3. While the castings are drying, cut the dark blue with silver star mulberry paper a couple of
inches larger that the frame backing.
4. Scrunch the paper and attach it to the backing with ZipDry adhesive (you want wrinkles.)
5. Die cut two or three each of the words Freedom and Forever from scrap “card stock”.
6. Layer and glue the words together.
7. When the paper castings are dry, use the soft lead pencil to draw around the design and add
faint details. Use the paper stump to soften and blend the pencil marks.
8. Use ZipDry adhesive to attach a small piece of foam board to the back of each paper casting.
9. Attach the paper casting to the top part of the silver star covered backing with ZipDry adhesive.
10. Attach the layered die cut words to the bottom of the paper covered backing.
11. Place and secure the backing into the frame.
12. Place on small easels to display.
