Share Your Easter Greetings With Paper Castings

Our weather is warming up and the trees are starting to blossom. Easter is just around the corner and I wanted to share this piece with you. It will be a gift for one of our neighbors grandkids who always share their Easter eggs and candy with us.

Supplies:

• Any of the Arnold Grummer® paper making kits  
• Blender, strainer, cello sponges and soft towels
• A sunny window
• Scraps of white paper (think junk mail, etc.) 
• Scraps of white card stock to die cut
• Bunny and basket paper casting molds
• Die: Impression Obsession™ #DIE256-N
• Crafter’s Companion™ Gemini Jr. die cutting and embossing machine 
• Beacon Fabri-TacTM adhesive, double sided foam tape 
• 11 x 14” oval Mauve Suede matt board
• 1 ½” gathered Mauve lace for the edge of the matt board
• 1” foam brush
• Various colors of embroidery floss and silk ribbon, Picot edge ribbon for the bunny’s bow
• Needles for floss and silk ribbon

Instructions:

1. Follow the instructions found in any of the Arnold Grummer™ paper making kits to create
        white slurry and cast one or more of the bunny and basket molds.  
2. Allow the casting to dry.
3. Use the brush to lightly apply. Fabri-Tac adhesive to the back of the paper castings. 
        (This helps with the stitching.)
4. Allow the adhesive to dry.
5. When the adhesive is dry, use the floss and silk ribbon to embroider the flowers on the 
        basket and bunny. 
6. Tie a small bow with the Picot edge ribbon and attach it to the top of the bunny’s right ear.
7. Attach the gathered lace to the back edge of the oval matt board with Fabri-Tac adhesive.
8. Die cut 2 of the words “Easter Greetings” from the white scrap card stock. Layer and glue 
        them together.
9. Attach the layered die cut words to the top left of the mat board with the Fabric-Tac adhesive.
10. Attach the paper castings with small pieces of double sided foam tape.
11. Add a hanger on the back and hang on your door or place it on an easel to display.

How to polish paper with a stone

Do you like to read about other handmade paper artisans? Recently I read an article from the Monte Crisco Magazine on Master Papermaker Francesco Proietti and one line really caught my attention. "Finally, a rounded stone “polishes” the paper until it is flat and smooth." Now I'm all about learning things the old fashioned way albeit I might not prefer to do it all the time, I do like my modern ways too, just saying. However I enjoy a respite from the modern world every now and then and this technique just called to me to try. Chigiri-e Japanese torn paper collage

This tutorial will show you how to create a chigiri-e inspired torn paper collage using handmade paper. Chigiri-e is a traditional Japanese craft. It is used for stationary, wall hangings, boxes and all kinds of decoration.   Handmade paper is perfect for this technique as the torn edges provide a lot of texture.
