Papers With Texture

Image
All handmade papers have something special about them.  Any piece can be distinct by what is blended together to create the papers.  This time around I was inspired to play with textures for the sheets I created. Looking through the various crafting tools I have available in my workroom I found several forms of "texture" plates that can have a variety of uses. To create this little booklet, a sheet of paper was made from a pile of scraps saved from several prior papermaking projects. Once they were blended together with some cotton linter squares and a torn sheet of copy paper it was poured into the deckle and then formed into a sheet following the usually instructions.  Before the drying process, the sheet was placed onto the plastic texture sheet, covered with a couching sheet and pressed with pressing block, applying as much pressure as possible to add the texture from the plastic sheet to the paper.  The textured piece was then left to dry on ...

Drying flowers the fast way!

Image
Hello all! Debbie Buckland here. Earthday is upon us and whats a better way to celebrate than pressing some of your fave flowers!? Oh my lordy! I tried out the Regular Microfleur #386 (microwave flower press)! I have been drying flowers and leaves etc in the microwave and having a ball! A friend gave me some fabulous flowers from her garden (sweet peas)  and when they were starting to fall apart after a few days I decided to put them in my handmade papers using the Papermill paper making kit. But first I had to pull the petals gently from the flower and the put them flat in the press. My petal colours enhanced somewhat in the microwave press! I love the surprise of that… they also feel like very very thin tissue paper. Or that really really expensive thin paper you can buy in specialty shops. I was very pleased with the results! And my papers? The top two left and middle I had put 3-4 petals in the blender with the paper pulp...

St. Patrick's Day Greetings

Image
Do you enjoy making and sending handmade greeting cards as much as I do? I never miss an occasion to create a special greeting. With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner, I knew that I wanted to make paper castings using molds from Arnold Grummer's. Here are the molds that I selected and the castings that I made: Shamrock Mold Thistle Mold Lotus Mold I followed these basic instructions for making paper castings. But, I experimented a bit. I achieved the mottled green coloring in the top shamrock casting by adding a drop of food coloring to the partially strained paper pulp, and gently kneading the color through the pulp just before plopping the pulp into the mold. I also discovered that if I didn't like the coloration, I could hold the strainer containing the paper pulp under a gentle flow of tap water and the color would, for the most part, wash away!! For the thistle casting, I sprinkled the casting with clear ultra...

Recyclable Wedding Favors

Image
What is a better way to share the love of the earth on the day of your wedding than to create these fabulous seed paper favors?  Everything used for this project is made of recyclable materials and can be personalized for your wedding.  They certainly help add to the memories of your day and they are easy to create.  To begin, use one of the Papermill Kits to create 2 sheets of paper using the basic instructions.  Add a special touch to the paper by mixing 2 colors of pulp into the sheets that match your wedding colors.  Pour the first color into the deckle box and continuously stir it with your hand while adding the second color.  The two will swirl together to create a gorgeous color pattern.  This pocket and seed paper favors were made using a red and blue pulp. Before completely lifting the box out of the water, add a packet of flower seeds across the surface and then lift the box out.  Finish the s...

Post it Note Holder

Image
Hello! Peggy here to show you how I put together a post it note holder as a little gift for my mom who makes lists and I thought she would appreciate a little gift.  First thing I did was make some wonderful paper with the Arnold Grummers Paper Making kit .  I added botanical leaves and flowers. I followed Arnold's directions with his easy to follow instructions .   I also used some tags template found Here  to make the tag. After making the paper I started with the Sticky Notes Books Starter Kit  I wrapped my homemade paper around the card stock to create a cover, spine and back cover. I used double sided tape to adhere my paper to the cover. I placed a liner inside so as not to see the chipboard.  I hot glued my Post it Notes onto the back inside cover.  My tag I used a stamp and doodling to create a sentiment.  I placed a ribbon for closure and adhered that to the spine  so I doesn't fall off every time yo...
