 Hi everyone! I'm Peg and I am so excited to be a part of the new design team for Arnold Grummer's Papermaking.   As you get to know me over the next several months you will quickly find out that there are 2 times of the year I absolutely love...Halloween and Christmas so I was so thrilled when the design team was asked to think about Christmas in July.  I know it's early for some of you, but for me it's never took early to start creating and decorating for the holidays.
 
Today I'd like to share with you this cute little door or window hanger using handmade papers to make these fun 3-d trees. 
 
  
 
I used the Papermill PRO Envelope & Stationary kit and followed the directions on how to make the paper.  For the mold, I used a scalloped round plastic cookie cutter I found at one of my local stores and a brass tree cookie cutter that I had for a while and poured the paper pulp carefully into them.  I made 2 of the scalloped pieces, 2 trees with stars and 2 trees without the stars. Once the entire piece was filled in, I added the stars and began to slowly life the mold out of the water. 
 

 
I carefully lifted the cookie cutter straight up after removing the hand mold and finished the paper according to the directions in the kit.  

 
I finished off the edges of the scalloped circles with glitter and scored the 2 trees down the center and glued them on top of the other 2 trees to create the 3-d look. I assembled all of the paper pieces together and then attached them to the ribbon making sure to create a loop at each end of the ribbon.  I tied a separate bow and added it to the top to finish it off.   
 
 
This cute little door (or window) hanger gives a whole new meaning to decking the halls this holiday season.  Once you make one, you won't want to stop at that and will want one to hang on every door and window in your house.

    Glad to meet you, Peg! Love your first project. Did you have any trouble with the little stars staying on the paper? We find some confettis have excellent behavior, others fall right off. Thanks for joining the team!

How to polish paper with a stone

Do you like to read about other handmade paper artisans? Recently I read an article from the Monte Crisco Magazine on Master Papermaker Francesco Proietti and one line really caught my attention. "Finally, a rounded stone “polishes” the paper until it is flat and smooth." Now I'm all about learning things the old fashioned way albeit I might not prefer to do it all the time, I do like my modern ways too, just saying. However I enjoy a respite from the modern world every now and then and this technique just called to me to try. So I got out from my stash a sheet of one of my "perfectly imperfect" hand made papers that I created using the medium Dip Handmold . Chigiri-e Japanese torn paper collage

This tutorial will show you how to create a chigiri-e inspired torn paper collage using handmade paper. Chigiri-e is a traditional Japanese craft. It is used for stationary, wall hangings, boxes and all kinds of decoration.   Handmade paper is perfect for this technique as the torn edges provide a lot of texture.
